On the ground Reporter

This is an online game I made to inform young people (age 15 - 20+) about the conflict in Darfur, and journalism in general. It’s a photorealistic first person point & click adventure based on real interviews with the people in Darfur, and real photo and video material shot in Sudan/Darfur.

Goudzoekers tv leader
Posted on | November 17, 2009 | 2 Comments
This is a new VPRO leader for a Dutch TV program shot with the 5D Mark II and post processed / edited in Adobe After Effects. I’ve had the 5D for about a month and I am using it for quite a few professional assignments already, mostly for website integration. The combination of cinematography/photography and motion design is something I have been playing with before but this camera brings video image quality to a new level for me.
Hoe word ik een Rat tv leader
Posted on | November 16, 2009 | 1 Comment
This is a television leader I made for a VPRO program on how to become a Rat, based on a book. The program reveales stories of people making each others lives difficult. The design is lighthearted, in contrast with the shocking material found in the program. The design has been finished and approved for 3 months now, but the program itself is being reformatted. Thanks to Robert Wiering (VPRO) for the support.

Video & film frame rates
Posted on | July 10, 2009 | 1 Comment
I recently found this post (24p must die) on Videomaker.com stating that 24p (24 progressive frames per second) as a format needs to die. A bit of bold statement, since many people believe that this framerate is the reason for a ‘film’ or cinematic look.

This Easter sunday, Michiel, Lars, and I played around with the 5D Mark II in Vondelpark, Amsterdam. For me and Lars it was the first time with the cam (Michiel owns it :-), so these are try outs. The picture above is a downsized frame from the video, the image quality is nothing short of amazing. The video here is a quick edit, to find out how to best process the files from the camera.
