The Panasonic Lumix GH4 is causing quite a stir in the video world, a bit like when the 5D mark II was announced, the first DSLR that shot good quality HD. The specs of the GH4 look great, the price is low. There are many good reviews out there, but here is my 2cts (at IJsfontein.nl, where I work as art director / director we’ve bought it).
So why the need for 4k? Even though many tvs are being sold that have 4k resolution, there is NO content yet. No game console, no broadcast, not even cinemas in most cases display 4k. Just online sample videos at this point. But, it is the future, and most importantly for us at IJsfontein – we make interactive content driven (video) experiences, games and installations. 4k capture is very flexible for this, and for post production.

4k is 4x the resolution of Full HD, and Youtube supports it (since 2010 actually). I’ve exported a selection of time-lapse shots at 4k, to see how Youtube handles it.

For VPRO Nederland van Boven I was art director, meaning the creation of the programs’ logo, identity, style guide, leader, idents, broadcast design, online & offline communication design, augmented reality tv guide, promo videos, timelapse photography & post production. I worked with the editorial team at VPRO, the communication and TV guide department to conceptualize and roll out the marketing/promo media and designs for the program.

Last night the Mediamonks 10 jaar celebration video went online, filmed by Lars and me. What a party, seriously. How strong and cool can a media brand get? It was packed. It was happening. It was mental.

Yesterday was TEDxAmsterdam, a wonderful inspiring event about Technology, Science and Design. We were nominated with project On the Ground reporter for the TEDx Challenge Award.
Respect to the winners: Wind Drinker, a great project. I was very nervous for the presentation on stage at the Stadsschouwburg (City Theater) for about 800 people on site, and many more watching live online or in 50 other locations in the Netherlands. There were many great speakers, and it was an honor to be part of an TED event, and to be nominated! Thanks to the organisation behind TEDx.

An impression of the 2010 Taekwondo visit to Korea. From Jeju Island to Seoul, from the buddhist lifestyle to the official Kukkiwon Taekwondo trainings & demonstrations. It was a 10 day trip, and filming/photographing happened quickly in between trainings & travels.

This is an edit of footage I shot for Exact (for Mediamonks), directed by Rogier Schalken and edited at Mediamonks. We followed 4 small and very different companies who use EXACT accounting software that ensures they can focus on their businesses. The clip is embedded on the EXACT website, to give it a more personal touch.
